![]() ![]() ![]() There is nothing stopping this technology from doing something similar given that it has the required resolution.Your question is far far far too broad. You have a very small area for your touchpad because a small movement on it corresponds to a large movement on the screen. The utility of this of course hinges on a few other barriers left to overcome, like making this cheap (IR cameras aren't known to be cheap) making it faster (looks to have some lag in the interface), etc.Īlso, how much space you need is entirely dependent on what sensitivity you use. Now that you are actively tracking an arbitrary number of points instead of a single point and a number of buttons you can do gestures, you could track a pen or just about any other object for that matter. There is also plenty of additional functions that you can do. Few people choose to use a touchpad above a regular mouse, but they are much easier to integrate into a laptop than a separate mouse would be. This would be akin to the touchpad on your laptop currently. This is just a proof of concept design - if this were to catch on then it wouldn't be difficult to build the laser and camera into say your keyboard or the side of your laptop.
